Dr Vivek Mathew did his MBBS and MD ( General medicine) from the prestigious St. John’s National academy of health sciences Bangalore. He pursued his academic interest and did his DM in Endocrinology Diabetes and Metabolism from The institute of post graduate medical education and research, Kolkata.
He returned to his parent institution, St. John’s in 2011 and started working in the Department of Endocrinology. During his period in St. John’s he was deeply involved with the development and functioning of the department and training of the Endocrinology students in the newly established DM course. He was also an investigator for various clinical trials exploring newer insulins and molecules in diabetes. He was also involved in basic research and has publications in national and international journals.He has also contributed as an author to books in Diabetes and Endocrinology.
His main clinical fields of interest include gestational diabetes , thyroid disorders, Diabetes complications, Calcium and vitamin D metabolism disorders, Osteoporosis,Hypogonadism, sexual dysfunction in men, pituitary gland disorders and growth disorders in children. Currently he is working as senior consultant in the department of Endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism in VPS Lakeshore hospital.

a) Management of gestational diabetes (diabetes in pregnancy) and Thyroid disorders in pregnancy
b) Diagnosis and treatment of Thyroid gland hormonal disorders and tumours. Fine needle aspiration cytology, PET scan and radioactive iodine therapy for detection and treatment of complicated thyroid cancer are available
c) Fracture risk assessment followed by prevention and management of osteoporosis ( DEXA bone scan, FRAX score and vertebral fracture assessment)
d) Management of Growth and pubertal disorders in children due to hormonal issues
