VPS Healthcare launches country's first Mobile TV on health information

VPS Health TV, country’s first Mobile TV on health information, an initiative by VPS Healthcare, has been launched today by Mr. S. K. Abdulla, CEO – VPS Lakeshore. The Mobile TV will feature contents on healthcare in video format and this unique approach aims to educate public on health-related topics. Mr. M. M. Mathai and Dr. K. V. Johny, Directors of VPS Lakeshore were also present.

The VPS Health TV app has been developed in association and guidance of expert medical professionals at VPS Lakeshore Hospital and includes short explanatory videos on different ailments and their treatments by doctors from across specialities.

Rare heart surgery performed at VPS Lakeshore to remove blood clots and blocks

Mohammed Ibrahim, 45, a native of Manjeswaram was brought to VPS Lakeshore Hospital with 4 blood clots and a block the size of a lemon in heart's main chamber, after suffering a heart attack in Saudi Arabia. A rare and complex 2 hours and 35 minutes surgery was performed on him by Dr. Moosa Kunhi – Senior Consultant and HOD, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, to remove the clots and blocks. The heart was kept in the heart lung machine for 4 hours and 15 minutes. The blood clot was completely removed in the operation and four bypass operations were also done.The patient has been fast recovering and will be discharged in a few days.

Rare heart surgery performed to remove blood clot and blocks from a 45-year-old man's heart

In a very rare surgery lasting seven hours, doctors at VPS Lakeshore successfully removed blood clot and blocks in the heart of a 45-year-old man after completely stopping and making his heart motionless for 2 hours and 35 minutes with the support of heart lung machine. The patient, Muhammed Ibrahim M., a native of Manjweswaram in Kasaragod district, is fast recovering and will be discharged within a few days.

The surgery was performed by a medical team headed by renowned heart surgeon Dr. M. K. Moosa Kunhi, Senior Consultant and HoD, Cardiac Surgery and Heart Transplantation, VPS Lakeshore. Muhammed Ibrahim, who was working in Saudi Arabia, was admitted into a hospital there after he suffered heart attack. He was later brought to India and admitted into a hospital in Mangalore. VPS Lakeshore Hospital & Research Centre Ltd. has been awarded the Green OT (Green Operation Theatre) Certification by Bureau Veritas (India) Pvt. Ltd.

The objective of the certification is to promote sustainable healthcare delivery using green and safe practices in operation theatres. The Green OT (Green Operation Theatre) Certification project is developed by Bureau Veritas in conjunction with Abbott India.

This unique certification ensures that the Operation Theatre of this hospital adhere to use of environmental friendly anaesthesia techniques, infection control practices, staff training and safety awareness and good waste disposal system.

VPS Lakeshore Hospital in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Cochin West launched “Project Samaritan”, an orientation programme on Trauma & Emergency Care for school students. The inaugural session of the project was held at Bhavans Vidya Mandir School, Girinagar and was presided by Mr. Yatish Chandra IPS - Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kochi. Mr. S.K. Abdulla – CEO, VPS Lakeshore, released the project brochure and handed over the first copy to Mr. Yatish Chandra. A trauma kit was handed over to the School Principal from VPS Lakeshore.

Doctors raise money for cochlear implant surgery

As a gesture of goodwill, doctors at VPS Lakeshore Hospital raised money for cochlear implant surgery for a patient from an economically backward family. The team of doctors including Dr. Shawn T. Joseph, Dr. Antony Paul Chettupuzha, Dr. Shobha P. and Dr. Mahesh participated in a quiz programme in a channel and handed over the prize money to the patient. The surgery was performed by a medical team comprising of Dr. Idiculla K. Mathews – Head ENT Department, Dr. Jaya Susan Jacob and Dr. Shwetha Shenoy. The remaining amount for surgery was raised by the patient's friends, while the cost of medicines and other expenses were met by the hospital.
